Student Top Ten Questions

TOP TEN QUESTIONS ASKED BY INCOMING STUDENTS

1. What do we need to bring the first day of school?

Bring a folder, paper, pencil and/or pen. Your teachers will let you know what specific supplies are needed for each class, so it is a good idea to wait and buy materials after you know what you need. Most students carry a backpack or book bag.

2. When will we find out what class we are assigned to? How will we find our class on the first day of school?

During the summer, you will be sent a postcard with a two-digit code (eg. AC). On the first day of school, Charter students should report to the auditorium, and Magnet students should report to Town Hall. Teachers will be holding signs with a code, and you need to find the teacher who is holding the sign with your code. That will be your homeroom, first and second period teacher. After you meet the teacher, she/he will bring you to your classroom, and you will be given a copy of your schedule.

3. What should we expect to happen on the first day of school?

You will meet all your teachers, and hopefully some new friends! Sixth grade students have four teachers: one teacher for Math and Science, one teacher for English and Social Studies, one for Exploratory class or Music class, and one for PE. You will also have nutrition (15 minutes between second and third periods) and lunch (35 minutes after fourth period).

4. When will we get our locker? Do we have to share them? Do we get to pick our locker combination?

Lockers will be given out in your homeroom class during the second week of school. You do not have to share lockers. Lockers come with pre-set combinations, so you cannot pick your locker combination. Make sure to not share your locker combination with anyone.

5. Do we change clothes for PE? Do we have to take showers?

Yes, you do change clothes for PE. Revere has a PE uniform that can be purchased at the Student Store, and it consists of green shorts and a gray t-shirt. You will have a PE locker in the locker room to store your street clothes while participating in PE class. No, you do not have to take a shower; however, shower facilities are available.

6. How much time do we have to change classes?

There are six minutes between classes (called “passing period”). Most sixth grade classrooms are located near the top of the campus, so students should have no problem getting to class on time.

7. Is there bullying at the school?

Just like in elementary school, unfortunately there are some students who choose to bully other students. However, at Revere we take bullying behavior very seriously, and have consequences for students who engage in bullying behavior. If you are ever bullied at Revere, please talk to your teacher, your counselor or the dean of discipline.

8. Do we buy our lunches at school or should we bring our own?

You can do either. Students may purchase lunch from the cafeteria, or purchase snacks and drinks from the Student Store. A lunch card may be obtained from the cafeteria so that you do not have to bring cash for lunch every day. Some students prefer bringing their own lunch.

9. When do after school classes begin?

The PEP after school program gets underway in early October. Classes are offered after school on certain days of the week with late buses provided on Mondays and Wednesdays for students who normally ride the school bus. Check out the website for more information: www.reverepep.org Revere also offers after school tutoring on Mondays and Wednesdays. Information will be given to students in early October.

10. Can we pick our elective in 6th grade?

Students may choose to be in the music program at Revere (choral or instrumental) by filling out a Music sheet and returning it to the counseling office. If a student does not want to participate in the music program, they will be placed randomly in one of our exploratory classes. These classes change every ten weeks, so you will have four different exploratory classes throughout the year.
