    Great News Everyone

Well it has finally happened. The District and our teachers have come to an agreement on returning to campus. Students will return to campus sometime in late April if things continue to improve with the current decline of COVID 19. Parents can find more information about what this return will look like in A Return to Campus Family Guide. This guide can be found on either the District’s website, http://reopening.lausd.net/familyguide or school website (paulreverems.com). You can use this detailed information to help you decide whether your child will return to school or continue with online instruction.

Once you have made your decision it is important that you fill out the districts Program Selection Form. This form can be found at reopening.lausd.net/familyselection The form will allow you to inform the district on five different topics, 1. Hybrid or Online 2. On site supervised care 3. Bus transportation (magnet families only) 4. Next year’s school Calendar 5. Summer School interest. All families must complete this important form no later than Friday, March 19, 2021. If the District does not receive a response from you, they will plan to continue to provide your child with online instruction only. Finally, you will have the option of changing how your child participates every two weeks.

Feel free to watch a recording of this morning’s parent informational webinar where the Revere Administrative team gave a brief presentation and answered questions from those who attended. This presentation can be found on the Paul Revere website www.paulreverems.com or reach out to us through Schoology or call 310-917-4800.

    Go Dodgers!!

Who would have thought back on March 13, 2020 that come March 5, 2021 your children would still be learning virtually and the majority of the California Economy would still be shut down. What started as a few weeks, rolled into a few months, and now is about to be a year.

But the news is not all doom and gloom, infection rates are down, teachers are now being vaccinated against the Corona Virus and the state of California has a plan to return students to some form of in-person instruction. You can expect if things remain constant that children in grades K – 3 will return to campus in some capacity by mid to late April. For Middle and High Schools students it is hoped that they would gain access to campus prior to the end of May but currently there are no plans.

    Film Festival

Even during a pandemic you can’t keep a good film maker down. Submission deadline for Revere’s annual Film Festival is fast approaching. All entries are due next Friday, March 12 by 4pm, don’t be left out of the fun and festivities at this year’s Film Festival which airs on April 9th. Categories include Animation, Live Action, Documentary and Music Video just to name a few. So make sure to get those submissions in before the deadline.

    Woman’s History Month

This Month we are commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28. Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, presidents have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as “Women’s History Month.” One such woman who is making history right now is Malala Yousafzai, take a few moment and find out a little more about Malala and other woman liker her.

Parent Workshop: Parenting During a Pandemic Part 2

Well, another week in virtual instruction world. This week in our schoolwide assembly I was asked by multiple students, “When will we be back on campus?”, “Will we need to be vaccinated to return?”, “Will culmination be virtual?” All good questions, many of them currently there is no answer to.

I will say that our superintendent has kept his message consistent over the last 11 months. “We will return to in class instruction when the science says it is safe”. I don’t doubt that many of you are frustrated by the slow pace and lack of information from all corners of the District and county leadership as to when this will actually happen. All I can do is let you know that Revere is ready when the time comes to welcome your children back on our campus in the safest way possible.  Please continue to monitor the superintendents Monday morning updates for the latest information.

    2021-2022 School Academic Calendar

Thank you Revere community for responding to the survey I sent out Wednesday night requesting your preference on which academic calendar the school district should choose for next year. 694 community members responded, with 469 (67.6%) selecting option #1. Option #1 has school starting on August 9 and ending on June 13. Option # 1 would shorten Winter break to just two weeks of vacation. Option # 2 would have had school starting on August 2 and ending on June 13 and add 10 additional days of instruction in the first semester, but would have maintained the three-week Winter Break.

The results of this poll was shared with the Local district leadership and local board member Nick Melvoin’s office as they look to set next year’s academic calendar.

    Black History Month

Frederick Douglass was quoted as saying It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men”. As we move closer to the one year, anniversary of schools closing these words could not be more timely and important. Revere understands that many of our students and their families have been affected by the Pandemic in a multitude of ways. Revere is here to support you and your child. Our Administration, Counselors, teachers, and staff are dedicated to making sure that all of students get the best education possible until the time comes when we can all be back together at Paul Revere Charter Middle School/Technology Magnet. We are all in this together.

    Returning to Campus

Superintendent Beutner in his address to Principals at our District wide meeting this past Wednesday stated that schools will not reopen until COVID infections are at “appropriate levels”. He went on to state that he feels the District is the perfect partner in supporting city wide vaccinations. LAUSD is currently working with LA City and LA County on a plan to use school campuses as vaccination sites. Stay tuned for future updates.

Wow! Time flies, January 2021 is over already, seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the New Year. I am happy to report that as I have been dropping into classrooms I have seen many of our students with their cameras on. This is a great way to keep connected to what is going on in the classroom, as the teacher can monitor student engagement. Keep those cameras on kids.

    One Week Down

Happy Friday Revere Families! Well, this week saw the inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Many educators and families throughout Los Angeles Unified School District took this opportunity to pause and reflect on what has transpired since we shut our doors last March. I wish for everyone going forward nothing but good fortune and good health.

Can Food Drive: Below please see a message from Mr. Slavin

Revere's community service club sends a huge "thank you" for supporting our 10th annual holiday canned food drive (and our first ever all-virtual fundraiser)! Thanks to your generous donations, we raised $12,808, more than doubling Revere's $5,000 goal. Your support made a difference in the lives of someone who may otherwise have gone hungry over the holidays. You also empowered the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in its heroic efforts to sustain our community during the coronavirus crisis. Thank you again. Until next year, remember: Revere "CAN" make a difference!"

    Local District West Family Support

We hope you'll join Local District West at a special Town Hall focusing on the Social Emotional and Mental Health of our West LA students, families and community during these challenging times and as we ready for our eventual return. The Town Hall takes place on February 2, 2021 at 5pm. The flier related to this event was sent out through Schoology. You can also use the link below to register.

    Supporting Those in Need

The Baldwin Bethany Community Development Corporation will again be holding their Thankful Thursday campaign on Saturday, February 6th. They are looking forward to a great year as they get ready to feed over 700 families at each event in the Baldwin Crenshaw District and surrounding communities. They have been able to help feed and give resources during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 to over 1500 families starting in the Summer of 2020. Information about this upcoming event can be found on our school Website, or by contacting Michelle Washington @ mwashington@bbcdcla.org

What I Do on My Spare Time

Once again, I will be running in the Los Angeles Marathon raising money for Angel City Pit Bulls a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a better future for pit bulls through education, public advocacy, adoptions, and owner support. My families have fostered dogs for ACPB over the last 4 years. Each year I run to raise awareness and money for these wonderful animals. If you are interested in supporting in my quest please visit my fundraising page @ https://donate.angelcitypits.org/fundraiser/3088013
